The main aim of this Animal Care qualification is to give students an understanding of animal health. Students will learn how to safely handle and restrain animals whilst also maintaining the animals’ welfare and safety. Students will also learn the principles of animal behavior.
The course is practically based and students will produce a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their competence. This is an all-round qualification that will give students a valuable insight into what it is like to work with a variety of animals and their needs.

Age range: 14+
Credit value: This course does not carry credits. It is however on the approved Progress 8 list. Students should consider this prior to enrolment on the course.
Guided Learning Hours: 120
If students do well on this Level 1 Animal Care course, they can progress onto a Level 2 college course such as the Diploma in Animal Care.
Alternatively they could be enrolled onto an apprenticeship, or apply for a job on a local farm.
